As an individual or business owner, you have flexibility to design a health and dental plan for yourself, your family and/or your employees. Depending on the benefits you would like to offer and the number of employees, there are plans to fit every business situation.
a. Individual Plans
These Plans have insurance coverage for health care, prescription drugs and dental. The three most common benefits included in a plan are Extended health care, prescription drugs and dental coverage. For business owners, the premiums are tax deductible and plans can be individualized for each employee.
b. Employee Benefit Plans
Plans offer a wide range of coverage including life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, long-term disability, health care, dental and critical illness. Simple or comprehensive plans can be designed for all sizes of companies. Many insurance companies and groups like the Chambers of Commerce arrange plans to suit groups of one or more.
c. Health and Welfare Trusts
These Trusts are set up by business owners – sole proprietors, partners and incorporated companies. They allow business owners to deduct money spent on eligible health care and dental expenses from their business income. The long list of eligible expenses includes all prescription drugs, vision care, dental expenses, orthodontics and health practitioners. These Plans can be used in combination with a traditional insurance plan. Employers have the flexibility to offer a certain amount per year to each employee. Employees choose how they wish to spend their money. There are no medical questionnaires to complete. This empowers employees to manage their health care dollars.
